Here’s a little about our firm’s owner, MN tax lawyer G. Martin Johnson
Since 1973, I have been licensed to practice law in
Minnesota and before all of the Federal Courts. Born in
Sioux City, Iowa, my family moved easterly across Iowa as
my dad moved up the coaching ranks. Ultimately my two
brothers and I moved to western Illinois and then to
Minnesota, where I graduated from Minnetonka High
School. After graduation for High School, I was fortunate
enough to earn an athletic scholarship to the University of
Minnesota, where I earned two Letters in Track and Field.
Following graduation from the University Of Minnesota-
School Of Business, with a decree in Accounting, I entered
the University of Minnesota Law School. In 1973, I
graduated and shortly afterwards started working for
Coopers and Lybrand, one of the Big 8 accountings firms,
as a Tax Specialists.
After acquiring my CPA certificate in 1974, I was hired by a Mankato Firm in early 1975 to set up their estate planning and tax departments. The nature of the practice resulted in trial experience, in addition to the estate planning and tax compliance.
In 1979, I returned to the Twin Cities and joined a tax firm in Edina. By 1980 I was ready to set up my own shop, which started November 1, 1980.
Since 1980, I have been in private practice, with the focus being bankruptcy, probate, income tax compliance and estate planning.
Over the years I have argued before all Courts in Minnesota, including the Courts of Appeals and Minnesota Supreme Court. In addition I had the opportunity to appear before the 8th Circuit on one occasion.
When not practicing law, I enjoy officiating. Over the years I have officiated la cross, basketball and football. While my prior experience in football includes working at the Division I, II and III, I am currently working only at the high school level.
In addition, for the last twenty five years, I have been involved in various prisons ministries, including programs at Moose Lake, Sandstone, and Stillwater prisons.
